Makoto ITO was born in Tokyo in 1958.
In 1981 he passed the bar examination.
1982
After graduating from Tokyo University, Faculty of Law, Mr. ITO joined the Legal Research and Training Institute.
He completed legal training and registered as lawyer.
After that, he started bar examination guidance aimed at training genuine lawyers.
1995
Mr. ITO founded "Ito Makoto Bar Examination Preparatory School" (currently “Ito Private Preparatory School”, or "Itojuku") and currently serves as the school principal.
Later, he started holding preparatory courses for law school entrance exam, public employee exam, judicial scrivener exam and administrative scrivener license exam.
The original teaching philosophy "Think beyond passing the exam" has gained popularity among many students.
Besides lectures at Itojuku, he works as university lecturer, instructor of liberal arts at Yoyogi Seminar, lecturer at Nikkei Business School, training instructor at regional judicial scrivener associations, tax accountant associations, administrative scrivener associations etc.
2002
Mr. ITO established "Hogakukan Institute of Constitutional Law" and currently serves as its Director.
As a research institution created to study the principles and spirit of the Constitution of Japan and to spread them in the society, the institute popularizes research results and information about the Japanese Constitution both in Japan and abroad.
2007
Mr. ITO established the law firm "Hogakukan" and currently serves as its Director.
After opening "Itojuku", he paused his activity as lawyer in order to focus on examination preparation, lectures and writing activities. He registered again as lawyer in December 2007.
2009
As one of the founders of the National Council for promotion of “One Person, One Vote” movement, Mr. ITO is involved, together with many lawyers and celebrities, in activities aiming at true constitutional democracy in Japan.
Starting with the concept "being responsible for knowing the Constitution", Mr. ITO has been very active giving public speeches, writing etc., spreading the philosophy of the Japanese Constitution as an Evangelist preacher would. His dream is to increase happiness globally, and to see Japan turning into a developed country in terms of human rights, human kindness and peace.
Mr. ITO also appeared in television programs like NHK's "Sunday debates" (「日曜討論」), "Recommendations for work and study" (「仕事学のすすめ」), TV Asahi's "Early morning live TV" (「朝まで生テレビ」). His message is conveyed to a large audience through various media. Among many books authored by Mr. ITO, the "Test Preparation Course by Makoto Ito" series (published by Kobundo) is useful both for undergraduate-level tests for Law and for legal qualification exams like Bar exam and Law School admission test, and is widely popular among those who study law, including current undergraduate and graduate law students.
